The IRS took administrative action to extend the deadlines for filing tax returns and making tax payments until January 3, 2006. KETRA originally extended this deadline until February 28, 2006 for excise, employment, income, estate and gift taxes – then extended it even further, until October 16, 2006.
Taxpayers filing the proper form (Form 4868) for an additional extension by October 16, 2006 were granted six more months, making the filing deadline April 17, 2007. Also, taxpayers making quarterly estimated tax payments were allowed to defer their first three payments for 2006 (April, June and September) until October 16, 2006.
