Put a Shine on Your Shoes and in Your Heart
To Our Valued Clients and Friends:
I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving with your families and friends!
The other day, I was complaining to a friend that my regular shoe shine guy had been missing in action for a couple of weeks, now. My friend, having listened, responded, “You do know you can shine your own shoes, right?”
That remark brought my father to my mind – he taught me to shine my shoes when I was in the 3rd or 4th grade and about to start altar-boy duties. My father shined his own shoes every Sunday evening.
So, I got out my shoe-shining tools – my brush, paste polish, and buffing cloth – and set to work. I kept in mind my maxim that we should always do remarkable work, whatever the task at hand, and shined my shoes with all my focus and diligence. They looked great! I felt a swell of pride as I looked at them, walking out the door on my way to work the following morning.
I believe we are called upon to do remarkable work, to the furthest extent of our abilities. And I believe in the pride we earn when our efforts produce an excellent result.
