The Avocado Principles

The Avocado Principles

Who doesn’t love a ripe avocado? They are delicious, nutritious, and versatile (I love using avocados in salads, on sandwiches, and most of all I love guacamole).

I love Seth Godin’s blog, to which I subscribe. He is the author of “This is Marketing,” which was released on November 13, 2018.

So, when I saw his blog entry titled “The Avocado Principles,” naturally, my curiosity was piqued.

What would Seth Godin have to say about avocados?

  1. First, he notes that waiting to buy avocados until you want to use them usually results in your finding only unripe ones available. Plan ahead – buy avocados in advance, so they have a chance to ripen.

  2. Second, if you eat an avocado before it is ripe, it will be disappointing – and you won’t have it to enjoy the next day, when it would have been perfect.

  3. Third, if you base your avocado-eating on instant gratification rather than thoughtful planning, you will have the choice of never eating a perfectly ripe avocado or paying a premium for ripe ones from someone who did the planning that you did not do.

  4. Fourth – have a plan. And buy more avocados than you think you’re going to use. Invest in a future of ripe avocados.

  5. Fifth, since you have so many avocados share them when they are ripe. What goes around comes around.

To wrap up, Mr. Godin reminds us of the applicability of “The Avocado Principles” to all areas of life – get ahead of the curve. Replenish your stock as needed. That way, a ripe avocado is always at hand. But if you let impatience and lack of planning get you behind the curve, you are as likely to waste your avocados as you are to enjoy any of them.

Plant the tree before you are going to need the shade.

How do you keep yourself stocked with “ripe avocados?”
